About the role
We are hiring a Quality Assurance Engineer at the start of their career to work on our web-based platforms. The role covers manual testing and automation in roughly equal measure. You will own testing for the features assigned to you, from reading the requirement and deciding what could break, through to writing and running the cases, raising defects and verifying the fixes. Alongside this you will build and maintain automated regression coverage using Selenium WebDriver or Playwright, starting with the flows you know best. This is a role for someone with solid fundamentals who wants to build real depth in quality engineering. You will work closely with developers and product, and you will have support from the QA team as you find your footing.
Responsibilities
- Review requirements and user stories to work out what needs testing, including negative and boundary scenarios.
- Write and maintain manual test cases and test suites.
- Run functional, regression, smoke, sanity and UI testing across supported browsers.
- Raise defects with clear reproduction steps, expected versus actual behaviour, and supporting screenshots or logs.
- Follow defects through to closure and verify fixes before release.
- Build and maintain automated test scripts using Selenium WebDriver or Playwright.
- Run automated regression suites, investigate failures and identify root cause.
- Test REST APIs in Postman, validating responses, status codes and authentication behaviour.
- Verify data at the database level using SQL.
- Prepare test data and carry out sanity checks after deployments.
- Share test execution summaries with the team.
Requirements
- A clear grasp of SDLC, STLC and how a defect moves from discovery to closure.
- Familiarity with test design techniques such as equivalence partitioning and boundary value analysis, along with a sense of when each is worth applying.
- Understanding of why severity and priority are separate decisions.
- Programming fundamentals in Python, Java or JavaScript: control flow, functions, collections, classes and error handling.
- Hands-on work with Selenium WebDriver or Playwright, covering locators, waits, assertions and how a test is structured.
- Working knowledge of API testing using Postman.
- SQL for data validation, including joins and aggregate functions.
- Comfort debugging with browser developer tools.
- Basic proficiency with Git.
- A reasonable picture of how web applications work: client and server, HTTP, sessions and cookies.
- Clear writing. Defect reports get read by people who were not there when the bug happened.
